Welcome to Grade 2!
Hello everyone and thank you for visiting our classroom blog! Please check back frequently for classroom updates, notices, photos of our learning and ways you can help continue the conversation of your child's learning at home.
Classroom Updates: Here is a quick look at what we are working on this week: Reading: The Caldecott competition has begun! All Grade 2 students are reading picture books which we think are contenders for winning the Caldecott Medal Award this year. We have set our criteria and the judging has commenced! Writing: Students are writing responses to the books we are reading and are learning how to express their personal opinions through their writing. They will be using some of the books as inspiration for learning how to use 'beautiful words' to enhance their writing. Math: Students are solving problems involving increasing patterns. They are learning how to represent their thinking concretely, pictorially and symbolically. The students are being encouraged to explain their thinking and talk about what they know to deepen their understanding. Social Studies: We are continuing our work learning about the Blackfoot People. Students are learning the cultural importance of the tipi to the Blackfoot People. |
