Today we had the wonderful experience of working with Ms. Suzanne on a sketching project. Please ask your child about their favorite part of it!
On Monday May 7th, the students will be starting a boat making project. They need to begin bringing materials this week and have them ready in school by Friday May 4th. Don't forget our Learn and Share is on Wednesday April 25th @ 1.30-2.45pm!
We will be showing our Blackfoot stories at this time in the Grade 2 classrooms. You do not need to attend for the whole time but allow enough time to visit with our marvelous students and see their amazing projects :) Volunteer Tea is on Thursday April 26th @10.30-11.30. This will take place in the Multi-Purpose Area. The students have completed their plans for their Blackfoot Legends project and are ready to start building next week. They have been asked to ensure that all their materials are brought to school by Monday so they can begin.
We are busy planning our projects for the Grade 2 "Show and Share" on Wednesday April 25th at 1.30pm. The students have been reading many Blackfoot Legends and have chosen their favorites to share with you. They are working in groups of 3 to represent these stories visually and explain what they tell us about the Blackfoot culture. Each member of the group is responsible for sharing a particular part of the story and there has been many excited discussions as they share ideas about how they can do this.
Materials they may need are: plasticine, popsicle sticks, rocks, toothpicks, ribbon, fabric, shiny paper, tin foil etc. Please ensure these are in school by Monday April 16th. We dived back into our learning this week after our Spring Break. The students enjoyed practicing strategies using known doubles in Math and have learned new games to practice during W.O.W.
In writing, the students used a picture prompt to create a interesting story beginning. Their use of descriptive vocabulary is improving constantly and they are developing their understanding of how to keep the reader engaged. We decided on our focus for our "Show and Share" and the students are excited to be sharing their own interpretations of Blackfoot stories. They are in the process of choosing their favorite story with their group to represent and interpret. In Science, we began our Exploring Liquids unit. The students were challenged to predict which container they thought would hold the most amount of water. There was interesting discussions, "I think the tallest will hold the most, although the other container is wider so that may make a difference." |
