Today we were introduced to SOGO Adventure Running. It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun! Tomorrow we will be practicing on the school field by working through different stations. Please ensure your child is wearing suitable footwear i.e. runners. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended as we will be out on the field for a while. Please send a labeled water bottle with your child as there will be many students outside at the same time.
On Wednesday we will be running in Fish Creek Park. Please ensure your child wears long pants or shorts with long socks. They will need to wear sunscreen and bug spray. Your child will be bringing their lunch and water as we will staying in the park to enjoy some games and other activities afterwards. You are welcome to send a change of clothes in your child's backpack just in case. Please remember that SOGO Adventure Running starts on Monday! For some more info, you can check out their website. We will be running Monday and Tuesday at school. On Wednesday we will be heading to Fish Creek Park. We will be staying in the park for lunch and heading back to school in the afternoon.
Boat building for the newest boat in the RNLI fleet will also begin on Monday so please ensure your child has all the materials they need. SOGO Adventure Running starts on Monday. On Monday and Tuesday we will be at school learning all about it from SOGO. On Wednesday we will be heading to Fish Creek Park to take on the challenge.
Please ensure your child wears runners. If the weather is favourabe, please apply sunscreeen and bug spray before school. We will be outside for at least an hour at a time so ensure your child is dressed appropriately for being outdoors. The students were introduced to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. This is a volunteer run organization in the U.K. who send rescue boats to sea. This links with our boats unit and the students were fascinated by the many different types of boats they use. They have been challenged to design and create a new boat for their fleet. They will be making a prototype in class that they will be testing.
Please remember our field trip to Granary Road is tomorrow! Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sunscreen. Comfortable footwear and a cap are essential. Please bring a water bottle and a garbage free lunch.

We had the wonderful Mrs. McKay teach us on Wednesday and we learned many new things about Book Creator on the IPADS. We have continued to work on our stories and have developed our ideas through the photographs we took. In Science, we have been observing and experimenting with liquids. We had great fun racing them and predicting which one would win! On Thursday we had a presentation about the importance of clean water and we learned what it was like to live in a country that does not have access to it. The students were very surprised by the lack of bathrooms and how this affects the health of the people who live there. We talked about how to save water by thinking about how much we use every day. Remember to bring any remaining materials for the boat making project by Monday. It is also Music Monday where we will be listening to different music all day. Today we had the wonderful experience of working with Ms. Suzanne on a sketching project. Please ask your child about their favorite part of it!
On Monday May 7th, the students will be starting a boat making project. They need to begin bringing materials this week and have them ready in school by Friday May 4th. Don't forget our Learn and Share is on Wednesday April 25th @ 1.30-2.45pm!
We will be showing our Blackfoot stories at this time in the Grade 2 classrooms. You do not need to attend for the whole time but allow enough time to visit with our marvelous students and see their amazing projects :) Volunteer Tea is on Thursday April 26th @10.30-11.30. This will take place in the Multi-Purpose Area. The students have completed their plans for their Blackfoot Legends project and are ready to start building next week. They have been asked to ensure that all their materials are brought to school by Monday so they can begin.
We are busy planning our projects for the Grade 2 "Show and Share" on Wednesday April 25th at 1.30pm. The students have been reading many Blackfoot Legends and have chosen their favorites to share with you. They are working in groups of 3 to represent these stories visually and explain what they tell us about the Blackfoot culture. Each member of the group is responsible for sharing a particular part of the story and there has been many excited discussions as they share ideas about how they can do this.
Materials they may need are: plasticine, popsicle sticks, rocks, toothpicks, ribbon, fabric, shiny paper, tin foil etc. Please ensure these are in school by Monday April 16th. |
